ASL Dictionary of Religious Signs
- Trinity
- Sign:

"Trinity"
- Trinity
- Hand Shape:
- Stationary hand is open "B" shape, other hand changes from "3" to "1".
- Motion:
- Hold your non-dominant open "B" hand in front of your body, palm toward your body. This hand remains in the same position throughout the sign. Dominant hand begins in "3" shape behind non-dominant hand, palm also toward body and positioned so the "3" fingers can be clearly seen. Move "3" hand in a downward arc that moves behind the other hand and underneath it, changing "3" hand shape to "1" as you do. Bring "1" hand up in front of the other hand, finishing in "1" shape with palm still facing body.
- Note(s):
- (Mnemonic Note) This sign signifies the "three in one" concept of the Trinity by the "3" hand becoming the "1" hand, as though three units have merged into one.
- Variations:
- Stationary hand may be held in a "C" shape, with the "3" hand moving between the thumb and other fingers; the fingers then close into an "O" shape after the "3" hand has been pulled through.
- Definition:
- "Trinity" refers to God (the Father), Jesus (the Son) and the Holy Spirit. The word refers to these three incarnations of God being united as the one godhead.
