ASL Dictionary of Religious Signs
- Hand Shape:
- Open "B".
- Begin with palm of open "B" hand facing forward, fingers up, positioned off-center in front of your chest. Pivot hand in a small circle so that fingers end up pointing towards your body. Move hand toward body until fingertips touch the "heart" area of your chest.
- (Grammatical Note) This is a fairly new sign, first used prominently by ASL poets. It is not noted in any books that we know of, but is rapidly gaining acceptance among ASL users. It is used specifically when referring to the eternal "inner being" of oneself; the older sign for "spirit" is still used for supernatural beings.
