Bible Camp for the Deaf

The first annual Bible Camp for the Deaf was held on the grounds of Camp of the Risen Son near Louisville, Nebraska, in August of 1971. Deaf Missions has sponsored this camp every year since then. Hundreds of deaf children, teens and adults have been blessed by this week of fellowship, worship and Bible teaching. Deaf people have come from as far as New York, West Virginia, California, Washington, Canada and even Australia to attend Bible Camp for the Deaf. These camps have helped to spark Deaf camps in other states as well.

Thursday, July 29, through Sunday, August 1, 2010.

When and where is Bible Camp for the Deaf?
Bible Camp for the Deaf meets at beautiful Nebowa Christian Camp near Onawa, Iowa (see map) the weekend of July 29 to August 1. Campers will enjoy evening chapel services, Bible classes for all ages, family group devotion time, swimming, recreation and crafts, and great food and fellowship. Nebowa Christian Camp has a lake, where campers may swim, ride on a paddleboat or canoe, or relax on the dock. Campers may also visit nearby Lewis and Clark State Park and the Aquatics Center in Onawa in the afternoons.

Camp opens at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 29. Please, do not come before that time. Every person should arrive at camp by 5:00 p.m., Thursday. Supper will be served at camp. Camp ends after lunch (12:30 p.m.) on Sunday, August 1. Campers must leave the campgrounds by 1:00 p.m.

Campers will sleep in dormitories. Both the girls’ and boys’ dorms have good restrooms, showers and beds. Families may bring motor homes or tents if they prefer, and even cook their meals on their own equipment if they like, as long as they follow the camp schedule. (If you have an RV and would like to park it at camp, please contact Chad Entinger at Deaf Missions.)

Who may come to Bible Camp for the Deaf?
All deaf and hard-of-hearing people, 5th grade through adult, are welcome to come to Bible Camp for the Deaf. (Children younger than 5th grade may come if accompanied by an adult parent or guardian. We have nursery care for children ages 1 to 3 during chapel and class times.) Hearing people are welcome, if they come with deaf people who are immediate family members. Hearing leaders may come, if they are with deaf members of their Deaf ministry.

Visitors are also welcome at Bible Camp for the Deaf. We encourage visitors to come for the evening activities. (Visitors may eat with the campers for $5.00 per meal. They must tell the dean 2 hours before mealtime if they plan to eat at camp, so more food may be prepared.) Visitors do not need to register. Visitors may not stay after “lights out” unless the dean gives permission.

What is the cost of camp and what should I bring? The cost for this year’s camp will be $70 for an individual, $110 for two members of the same family, and $150 for families of three or more. Campers who register and pay by June 1, 2010, will receive a free T-shirt (one per person). Cost includes all meals, lodging, craft materials, camp photo and insurance. The cost does not include mission offerings, snacks, souvenirs or special activities.
