Alexa Abenchuchan

Training/Outreach

Alexandra Ivy Gulka-Abenchuchan is a proud Canadian, born in the frigid city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and then raised in Milton, Ontario, which is a suburb of Toronto. Because of this, Alexa enjoys watching and playing hockey and cross-country skiing. Cold weather or snow does not bother Alexa at all. She has deaf parents and a brother who's serving in the Canadian Army.

Alexa was a Gallaudet student from 2005 to 2007, but then left to attend Sunset International Bible Institute, graduating with a Certification in Women's Deaf Bible Studies. After graduating, she got married to Alexander Abenchuchan and moved to Washington, D.C. so her husband could complete his Bachelor's degree studies.

She loves to eat pizza, watch movies with her husband, and taking her German Shepherd dog, Axel, outside to play. Whenever possible, she will bolt to the great outdoors to go camping or hiking. She suffers from severe wanderlust and always is looking for a good deal to fly out to another country. Her travel highlights include climbing Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, biking/bussing on the World's Most Dangerous Road in Bolivia, visiting Machu Picchu in Peru, swimming in the beautiful beaches of Manuel Antonio in Costa Rica, and scaling the ancient city of Tenochtitlan near Mexico City. Whenever she travels, she will visit deaf orphanages and has a big desire to work with orphanages in the future.

Alexa has always had a desire to serve God in a big way, and when Deaf Missions offered her a brand-new opportunity to work with them, she immediately took it. You can find her answering the videophone or somewhere in the jungles overseas!
