A Good Father

One of the greatest examples of a good father in the Bible is Joshua. Joshua was born in Egypt when the Israelites were slaves. He was a descendant of Joseph through Joseph’s son, Ephraim. We first read about Joshua in Exodus 17:10. Moses called Joshua to lead the Israelites in battle against the Amalekites.
Joshua was in the mountains with Moses when he received God’s laws (Exodus 24:13). Joshua was one of the twelve men sent into Canaan to spy out the land (Numbers 13:8). Joshua was one of the two men to bring back a good report.
We remember Joshua as the leader of the Israelites after Moses’ death. We know that Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land to receive the land God had promised to them.
At the end of his life, Joshua gathered all the Israelites at Shechem. He challenged them to serve the Lord (Joshua 24:14-15). But Joshua especially showed us that he was a good father when he said in verse 15, “But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” The greatest father is one who teaches his children to love and serve God.
