Apostles (1)

Today we will begin talking about apostles. The apostles were men that Jesus chose to be His special followers.
Twelve apostles followed Jesus for about three years. They saw Jesus’ miracles and listened to Him teach. Eleven of these twelve men witnessed Jesus’ resurrection. One man, Judas Iscariot, died before Jesus’ resurrection. A few days after Jesus arose, the eleven apostles chose a man to replace Judas. Later, Paul called himself an apostle, even though he did not follow Jesus while He was on earth. For the next few days, we will look at each of these men and learn from their lives.
Verses 12-13a of our Bible Reading today say, “At that time, Jesus went out to a mountain to pray. He stayed there all night praying to God. The next morning, Jesus called His followers. He chose twelve of them.” The night before Jesus chose His apostles, He prayed.
This is a good example for us. When we have an important job to do, we should pray and ask for God’s help and wisdom.
