Apostles (5)

James’ brother, John, was also one of Jesus’ apostles. John wrote five New Testament books — John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John and Revelation. Our Bible Reading tells us that John was someone that Jesus “loved very much” (verse 26b).
John was near the cross where Jesus was crucified. There were several women with him, including Jesus’ mother, Mary. Before Jesus died, He told John to take care of His mother. Jesus “said to his mother, ‘Dear woman, here is your son.’ Then Jesus said to the follower, ‘Here is your mother.’ So after that, this follower took Jesus’ mother to live in his home” (verses 26b-27).
Jesus had lived and worked with John. He knew that He could depend on John to serve Him by taking care of His mother. Jesus wants you to serve Him, too. He may want you to be a preacher or a missionsary. Or He may want you to help elderly people or teach children.
Are you willing to be a servant like John?
