Bible Animals (5)

In Bible times, many people rode donkeys. Our Bible story today tells about a man from Samaria who had a donkey.
The Jews and the Samaritans did not get along. If a Jew saw a Samaritan, he would avoid him and not speak to him. Jesus told a story about a Jewish man who was traveling. “Some robbers surrounded him, tore off his clothes, and beat him. Then they left him lying there on the ground almost dead” (verse 30b). Two Jewish men walked past the hurt man and did not help him.
Finally a man from Samaria came down the road. He felt sorry for the man. So he took care of the man’s wounds and “put the hurt man on his donkey, and he took him to an inn. There he cared for him” (verse 34b). Even though these men were enemies, the Samaritan man stopped and helped the Jew.
We should help other people — even those people who are our enemies. It is not easy to help a person that we do not like. But God will give us strength and wisdom so that we can obey His Word.
