Recently we talked about Joseph, who had eleven brothers. Today our Bible verses tell us about David, who had seven brothers.
God told Samuel that He had chosen one of the sons of Jesse to be the new king of Israel. So Samuel went to Bethlehem to see Jesse. Jesse brought his seven oldest sons before Samuel. But each time, God told Samuel that son was not the right one. Finally, Jesse sent for his youngest son, David, who was out taking care of sheep. David came before Samuel. Then God told Samuel, “Get up and anoint him. He is the one” (verse 12b).
When God chose the man to be king, He did not look at how tall or handsome he was. “God doesn’t look at what people see. People judge by what is on the outside, but the Lord looks at the heart” (verse 7b). God doesn’t care if you are beautiful or if you wear fancy clothes. Instead, God wants you to love Him and humbly serve Him every day.
