In our Bible Reading for today, Jesus talked about two brothers and their father. We don’t know if this is a true story or not. But we do know that Jesus told this story to teach an important lesson.
The younger brother in this story asked his father to give him his share of the family inheritance. “So the father divided his wealth between his two sons” (verse 12b). Then the younger brother went far away and spent his money foolishly. Soon he was hungry and needed money. So this brother decided to go home and ask his father to forgive him and accept him as a servant. The father welcomed his son back into the family. He said, “My son was dead, but now he is alive again! He was lost, but now he is found!” (verse 24a).
Through this story, Jesus is teaching us that God loves us. Even when we do wrong things, God is waiting for us to repent. He is willing to forgive and accept us as His children. Praise God!
