Bible Cities (1)

Abraham and his nephew, Lot, moved to a new land. Abraham settled in Canaan, but Lot chose to live in the city of Sodom.
Gomorrah was a city that was near Sodom. The Bible tells us that these two cities were very wicked. They were so wicked that God planned to destroy them. But God sent two angels to rescue Lot and his family from Sodom.
Verse 29 of our Bible Reading says, “God destroyed the cities in the valley. But when God did this, he remembered Abraham and did not destroy Abraham’s nephew…God sent Lot away from there before he destroyed those cities.”
There are two very important things we can learn from this story. First, God punishes people who do not obey Him. God punished the wicked people who lived in Sodom and Gomorrah. Second, God is loving and merciful. God saved Lot and his family.
God loves us, too, and He doesn’t want us to be punished. That’s why He sent Jesus to die on the cross. Jesus accepted our punishment so we can live forever with Him.
