Nehemiah and the Jews finished building the walls and the gates. This was very important for the city of Jerusalem.
In Bible times walls were important so cities could defend themselves. Cities without walls were considered weak and had no defense. Enemies could easily defeat and overtake a city without walls. Jerusalem without walls was also a disgrace to God.
Our Bible Reading tells us that Jerusalem had new walls. Now the city could defend itself. Jerusalem was considered a strong and important city. And most importantly, God was honored and glorified.
The Jews celebrated what God had done through them. They dedicated the walls around Jerusalem with great joy and with songs of thanksgiving. The people walked on the walls and gave thanks to God. They did this to honor God.
Celebrate what God has done in your church and your life. Thank God for sending His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for your sins. Celebrate!
