Our Bible Reading for today and tomorrow is about God choosing David to be king. I will share with you two things I learned from these verses.
Last winter the weather in the United States was very strange! Places where it is usually warm were very cold. Many of the plants became brown and wrinkled. These plants seemed to be dead. But experts looked inside the plants. They said that the plants were still alive.
God sent His prophet, Samuel, to choose a new king. When Samuel saw Eliab, Jesse’s oldest son, he thought that God had chosen Eliab. But God said to Samuel (verse 7a), “Eliab is tall and handsome. But don’t think about things like that. God does not look at the things people see. People look only at the outside of a person, but the Lord looks at his heart.”
The experts looked at the inside of the plants to see if they were alive or not. In the same way, God looks inside us. He does not judge us by the way we look on the outside. God knows us and sees what is inside our hearts.
