Christmas Trees (2)

In the 1500s, a man named Martin Luther lived in Germany. Some people believe that Luther set up a Christmas tree in his home. This tree had candles on each branch, and presents were put under the tree. After dinner on Christmas Eve, Luther and his family opened the presents.
During the Revolutionary War in America, the colonists hired soldiers from Germany to help them fight the British. These German soldiers brought with them the idea of a Christmas tree. The Americans strung popcorn and cranberries on their trees.
It is fun to learn about Christmas traditions, but it is even more fun to learn the story about Jesus? birth. Take time this December to read this story from the books of Matthew and Luke. If you are a parent, teach this story to your children. Explain to them the importance of God sending Jesus to earth as a baby.
