Often mothers will catch their children with their hands in the cookie jar, trying to steal cookies. These children know that taking cookies is wrong, but they really want a cookie to eat. Maybe this happened to you when you were young. Do you remember how you felt when your mother caught you? Probably you felt very bad that you had done something wrong.
In our Bible Reading today, Peter said in verse 11b, “…stay away from the evil things your bodies want to do. These things fight against your soul.” Peter was talking to adults, not children. Even adults do things that they know are wrong. Peter encouraged these Christians to live good lives (verse 12b).
In the last part of verse 12, Peter said why Christians should stop doing wrong things. “Then they will see the good things you do, and they will give glory to God on that day when he comes.” We should live good lives so that other people will see what we do. Then they will want to love and serve God, too.
Remember that every day people are watching you – your co-workers, your neighbors, your friends and your family. Live for Jesus today!
