In our Bible Reading, Peter talks about Jesus as a stone that lives (verse 4) and a precious cornerstone (verse 6). It is interesting that Peter talks about this, because Peter’s name means rock or stone.
In verse 5a Peter says, “You also are like living stones. God is using you to build a spiritual temple.” Peter is explaining that we are part of God’s spiritual temple, the church. All Christians are the living stones that make up the church.
But Jesus is more important than we are. He is the cornerstone of the church. The cornerstone is the most important stone in a building. All other stones are built around that one stone. So Jesus is the most important part of the church.
As Christians, our lives are built on Jesus. He holds us together and helps us grow in our faith. We can depend on Jesus to show us what is right and wrong.
