Verse 5 of Psalm 23 says, “You prepared a meal for me in front of my enemies. You welcomed me as an honored guest. My cup is full and spilling over.” A good shepherd makes sure that his sheep have enough to eat. If the sheep do not have enough to eat, they may become sick and weak. The shepherd wants his sheep to be happy and satisfied.
In Bible times, it was important for the owner of a house to make a visitor feel welcome. He might have his servant pour oil on the person’s head. The owner of the house would also make sure that the visitor had plenty to eat and drink.
In the same way, God gives us many good things. God blesses us each day. He gives us food to eat and a place to live. God gives us our family and friends. But most important, God gives us salvation through His Son, Jesus. God wants every person to obey and follow Jesus.
Thank God today for the many ways He blesses you.
