Death of Firstborn

God told Moses that after one more plague, Pharaoh would force the Israelites to leave Egypt. Moses described this last plague in Exodus 11:4-6. “Moses said to the king, ‘‘The Lord says, “At midnight tonight, I will go through Egypt, and every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, to the firstborn son of the slave girl grinding grain. Even the firstborn animals will die. The crying in Egypt will be worse than at any time in the past or any time in the future.”’”

At midnight, God killed all the firstborn sons and firstborn animals in Egypt. That night someone died in every house in Egypt. But God loved the Israelites. He made a way for them to escape the terrible plague. The firstborn sons in the Israelite homes were saved. Finally, the ten plagues were over. Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to take all the Israelites and their animals and leave Egypt. God was with Moses and Aaron and helped them lead the people to a new home.

The punishment for our sins is eternal separation from God. But just as God made a way for the Israelites to escape the plague of death, He has made a way for us to escape His punishment. That way is through His Son, Jesus. I hope you are obeying and following Him today!
