Doing Good

Our Bible verses today were written by Paul. At that time, people owned slaves. Paul encouraged slaves to obey their masters.
Paul also talked about slaves who only obeyed their masters when they were watching them. That’s like people today who only work when their supervisor is watching. As Christians, we should not be like this. Paul’s advice was to do our work like we are serving God instead of other people (verse 7b).
Some chores I do can become boring. So I am happy to wash the dishes when I think that Jesus is a guest at my supper. I make every bed as if Jesus was spending the night at my house. I cut the grass in my yard as if I am preparing for a visit from Jesus.
Paul closed those verses by saying that God will “give every person a reward for doing good” (verse 8a). That encourages me to keep on working for Him.
