When you accepted Jesus as your Savior, how did you feel? Probably you felt wonderful. Maybe you thought that the wonderful feeling would last forever. But then later, the feeling disappeared. Maybe you even wondered if you were saved or not.
Most new Christians are very excited. Then when they face problems, that excitement goes away. Some people think this means they are not saved. But that is not true. We are not saved by our emotions such as happiness, sadness, excitement or fear. We are saved by God’s grace. God showed us His grace by allowing Jesus to die on the cross for our sins.
In our Bible Reading today, John told the Christians (verse 13), “I write this letter to you people who believe in the Son of God. I write so that you will know that you have eternal life now.” John wanted these people to know that they could be sure of their salvation.
How do you feel today? Maybe you are sad or discouraged. No matter how you feel, remember that God has promised salvation to people who love and obey Him.
