Faithful Witness

Jesus is called the faithful witness by John in Revelation 1:5. The original Greek writing says that Jesus is the witness, the faithful.
John seems to be saying that Jesus’ life, character and message are true and reliable. I believe John wants us to know that we can always trust Jesus and what He says.
Today we use the word witness when we talk about someone who sees or hears something. Often a witness is asked to tell what they have seen or heard in court. But not all witnesses give a truthful account of what they saw or heard. And sometimes we do not believe witnesses because they do not have a good character.
We should thank God for Jesus, who is our faithful witness. His life, character and message (the Gospel) are true. Jesus never lies. We can always depend on Him to keep His promises!
