Today’s Bible Reading tells about Elijah and his faith in God. This is one of my favorite Old Testament stories. It reminds me that we should only worship God.
Elijah was a prophet, a man who spoke messages from God. During the time that Elijah lived, many people worshiped Baal, a false god. These people did not worship the one true God. Elijah wanted all the people to know that Baal was a false god. So Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal to a contest.
Elijah told the prophets of Baal to prepare a bull for a sacrifice. Elijah prepared a bull, too. Then the worshipers of Baal called to their god to send fire. No matter what they did, no fire came to burn up the sacrifice.
Elijah told the people to pour water over his sacrifice three times. Then he prayed to God. God sent fire to burn up the sacrifice and the water, too! Then the people knew that God was the one true God.
Praise God today for His power and His love.
