Maybe you have watched a field fire or a forest fire. A fire does not choose which trees or plants or houses it will destroy. It destroys everything in its path.
It is difficult to control a fire. Sometimes firefighters spend days or weeks trying to put out a fire. Often the firefighters will start a second smaller fire to help control the larger fire.
Angry and hurtful words or signs can destroy families and friendships the same way a fire destroys forests and houses. Verse 5b of our Bible Reading says, ?A big forest fire can be started with only a little flame.? A few angry words or signs can damage our relationship with another person.
After we use angry words or signs, we can?t take them back. So we need to always be careful to use good words and signs. Our communication should show other people that we are God?s children.
