Flies

I live out in the country. Every summer we have many flies. Most of the time, the flies don’t bother me. But sometimes they bite and become a nuisance.
God’s people, the Israelites, were slaves in Egypt. The king refused to let the Israelites leave Egypt. In our Bible Reading, we learn about one of the terrible ways that God punished the Egyptians. “So the Lord did just what he said. Millions of flies came into Egypt…They were all over Egypt. The flies were ruining the country” (verse 24). I don’t like having a few flies during the summer, but this must have been terrible!
Yesterday we read about the miracle that happened when Jesus fed 5000 people. Sending the flies to punish the Egyptians was a miracle, too. Only God could do something like this. God wanted to show the Egyptians that He was the one true God.
God does wonderful things for us today, too. But most wonderful of all, He sent Jesus to die for our sins. Isn’t God awesome?
