Forgive Others

In our Bible Reading, Jesus told a story to explain to Peter about forgiveness. Jesus said that a servant owed his king a lot of money. The servant could not pay back the money, so the king ordered that his wife and children be sold. The servant begged the king to be patient with him. The king felt sorry for him and told him “he did not have to pay. He let him go free” (verse 27b).

Later, that servant found another person who owed him a small amount of money. This person could not pay and asked the servant to be patient with him. But the servant refused and had the man put in jail. When the king found out about this, he became angry and put the servant in jail until he could pay everything he owed.

Jesus closed the story by explaining its meaning, “This king did the same as my heavenly Father will do to you. You must forgive your brother or sister with all your heart, or my heavenly Father will not forgive you” (verse 35). Will you forgive others today?
