Many people in the world today think that they don’t have to obey anyone. These people think they can do whatever they want to do.
People like this are very proud. They think that they do not need God and His forgiveness. In our Bible Reading today, Jesus told a story about two men. One was a Pharisee (religious ruler) and the other was a tax collector.
The Pharisee prayed to God, “O God, I thank you that I am not as bad as other people” (verse 11b). Then the Pharisee listed all the good things he had done. But the tax collector was very humble. He said (verse 13b), “O God, have mercy on me. I am a sinner!”
The worst thing we can do to God is reject His free gift of salvation and forgiveness through Jesus. God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die for us. One way we can truly thank God is by accepting His forgiveness and living for Him.
God is ready to forgive you today. Don’t be like the Pharisee. Be like the tax collector and ask for God’s mercy and love.
