Genesis (4)

In the Old Testament we can find many different names for God. These names often describe how God helped His people. In our Bible verses for today, we learn another name for God.

Abraham and his wife, Sarah, did not have any children. So Sarah gave her slave, Hagar, to Abraham. Hagar became pregnant with Abraham’s child. Hagar was very proud and felt that she was better than Sarah. So Sarah sent Hagar away.

An angel of the Lord found Hagar “near a spring of water in the desert” (verse 7b). The angel talked to Hagar and told her to go back to Sarah. Hagar called God a new name. This name was “God Who Sees Me.” In verse 13b Hagar said, “I see that even in this place God sees me and cares for me!”

God always sees us and knows the problems we are facing. We can depend on Him to give us strength and take care of us just like He took care of Hagar.
