Getting Clean

When I was a teenager, my brother and I had a mud fight in a big mud hole on my grandfather’s farm. At first, it was fun. My brother and I spread mud all over our faces. We slid through the mud. But after a while, it was not fun any more. My brother and I felt dirty, cold and uncomfortable.
But it was not easy to get out of the mud hole. The mud was slick, and we couldn’t stand up. It seemed like the mud was sucking us down. When we got back to the house, we were very glad to be clean again.
When I read today’s Bible Reading, I remembered our mud fight. David wrote in verse 2b, “He [the Lord] lifted me from that muddy place. He picked me up, put me on solid ground and kept my feet from slipping.” The “muddy place” David talked about in that verse is “sin.” At first, sin can seem fun. But later, sin makes us feel dirty, cold and uncomfortable in our hearts.
When we accept Jesus as our Savior, He frees us from that “muddy place.” He forgives us and makes us clean again. Praise God for salvation through His Son, Jesus!
