During Old Testament times, a Jewish high priest made animal sacrifices for the people’s sins. This was God’s plan for His special people, the Jews. These sacrifices were necessary for sins to be forgiven.
Later, God sent Jesus to earth. Jesus grew up and taught the Jews about following and obeying God. When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the price for everyone’s sin. Jesus was like the Old Testament high priests. His sacrifice brought forgiveness to people.
The book of Hebrews in the New Testament explains that Jesus’ sacrifice was much better than the animal sacrifices that the Jewish high priests made. In Hebrews 3:1, the writer gives us another reason why God sent Jesus. “So my brothers and sisters, those chosen by God to be his holy people, think about Jesus. He is the one we believe God sent to save us and to be our high priest.”
Maybe someone will tell you that you don’t need to love and follow Jesus. Remember that God sent Jesus to be your high priest. Jesus is the only one who can save you and give you eternal life. Thank God for Jesus today!
