God?s Friends

Paul loved and served God. Paul told many people about Jesus. But some people did not want Paul to talk about Jesus. So they persecuted (did bad things to) Paul. Several times people beat Paul and put him in jail.
But Paul did not give up. He was happy to serve God. In verse 3 of our Bible Reading, Paul said, ?And we are also happy with the troubles we have. Why are we happy with troubles? Because we know that these troubles make us more patient.? Paul knew that God used these troubles to make Him a stronger Christian.
Most of all, Paul wanted to be God?s friend. In verse 11b, he said, ?We are happy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ. It is because of Jesus that we are now God?s friends.? Paul was able to stand strong because he focused on living forever with God.
Paul had the Holy Spirit to help him be strong. Christians have the Holy Spirit, too. We can depend on Him to help us face troubles and persecution.
