God’s Rules

In Exodus, chapter 20, God gave His people, the Israelites, ten special rules or commands. These rules are like a compass. A compass shows us which direction we should go. In the same way, these rules show us how we can have a good relationship with God and other people.
In verse 36 of our Bible Reading today, some Jewish religious leaders asked Jesus, “Teacher, which command in the law is the most important?” Jesus did not answer by telling them one of the ten special rules. Instead, Jesus told them, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind” (verse 37) and “Love your neighbor the same as you love yourself” (verse 39). Jesus said that all the other rules “take their meaning from these two commands” (verse 40). These rules show us more about loving God and other people.
Pay attention to these rules and let them help you live for God.
