Growth in Suffering

The first part of Revelation includes seven messages from Jesus. These messages were given to seven different churches, but all Christians can learn from these messages.
Today’s reading is the message to the church in Smyrna. In these verses, Jesus said He knew the people in the church were suffering. Other people were hurting them and killing them.
Jesus warned them that they would continue to suffer, for a time. But He reminded them that they were not suffering for nothing. Later they would receive a reward for their suffering.
When we suffer, our faith grows stronger. We learn to trust God when we have troubles. And we learn that the Holy Spirit gives us comfort when we are sad. It is not fun to suffer, but we know that we will get good things because of our suffering.
And more important, we know that God will give us a reward in heaven if we are faithful to Him when we suffer.
