Year after year, Hannah and her husband, Elkanah, went to Shiloh to offer sacrifices to God. One year when they were at Shiloh, Hannah was very upset. Why? Because she could not have any children. Hannah decided to pray to God. Verse 10 says, “Hannah was very sad. She cried very much while she prayed to the Lord.” Hannah asked God to give her a son. She promised that she would give her son back to God.
Eli, the priest, saw Hannah praying. She moved her lips, but she did not say the words out loud. Eli thought that Hannah was drunk. Hannah told Eli that she was not drunk. She told him why she was upset. Hannah told Eli about her prayer to God. Eli answered in verse 17, “Go in peace. May the God of Israel give you the things you asked.” God paid attention to Hannah’s prayer. Later Hannah had a son and named him Samuel. She brought Samuel to Eli. Samuel served God the rest of his life.
Sometimes we become upset or face problems. We need to pray to God like Hannah did. God will pay attention to our prayers and help us, too.
