Another name given to Jesus was Immanuel. This name is found in our Bible verses for today. Verse 23 says, “The virgin will be pregnant and give birth to a son. They will name him Immanuel. (Immanuel means, ‘God with us.’)”
When Matthew wrote these words, he was quoting Isaiah 7:14-16 from the Old Testament. Isaiah also used the name Immanuel in Isaiah 8:8.
The New Testament does not tell us if Jesus was called Immanuel any time during His life on earth. But this name describes Jesus perfectly. Jesus was from God, and He was truly God in human form. Jesus came from God and “became a man and lived among us” (John 1:14a).
When I think about the name Immanuel, I remember that God loves me so much. God was willing to come to earth and live with people. Praise God for His great love!
