Immanuel

Today’s word is Immanuel. For a long time, God planned to send His Son to earth. God wanted His Son to be a man and live among people. God wanted His Son to experience the same temptations, pain and suffering that we face.
Verse 23 of our Bible Reading today quotes Isaiah 7:14 in the Old Testament. This verse says, “The virgin will be pregnant and will give birth to a son. They will name him Immanuel. (Immanuel means, ‘God with us.’)” When Jesus was born, God came to live among humans.
I am so happy that Jesus lived on earth as a man. That means Jesus understands when I tell Him my problems and my sadness. He understands that it is hard to resist temptation. I can read in the Bible how Jesus resisted the devil. That encourages me to stand strong when I am tempted.
This Christmas season, don’t just think about baby Jesus in the stable in Bethlehem. Think about His life and ministry on earth and His sacrifice for you.
