In the Beginning

The first place where God’s Spirit is mentioned is in the second verse of our Bible Reading. Genesis 1:2 says that before God gave any shape or form to the world, His Spirit was there. This shows that the Holy Spirit was involved in the creation of the world. We can see that He has been involved in God’s creation ever since the beginning. Other verses that speak about God’s Spirit being involved in creation are Job 33:4 and Psalm 104:30.
God’s Spirit is still involved in creation today. The Holy Spirit helps people to become a “new creation” when they accept Jesus. In John 16:9 Jesus says the Spirit will prove to people that they have sin. When we realize we have sin we want to change. The only way for us to truly change is to accept Jesus as our Savior (2 Corinthians 5:16-21). When we receive Jesus, God sends His Spirit to live in us (Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:1-5). The Spirit helps us become more like God (Romans 8:26-27; Galatians 5:16-26).
The Spirit was involved in the creation of the world. He is still involved when God makes us “new creations” through Christ.
