Independence

Today is a special holiday in the United States. On July 4, 1776, the American colonists said that they were free and independent from the British king. This holiday is called “Independence Day.”
The colonists felt that the British taxed them unfairly and restricted their freedoms. So they fought a war to win their independence from England. July 4th reminds Americans to be thankful for their freedoms.
People who are not Christians are slaves to sin and eternal death. But Jesus’ death on the cross offers them victory and freedom from the punishment for their sins. Our Bible Reading today reminds us how much God loves us and that He willingly sent Jesus to die.
Americans celebrate Independence Day to help them remember their freedom. In the same way, Christians celebrate the Lord’s Supper. This is a time when we can remember our spiritual freedoms through Jesus. Thank God today for independence through His Son!
