Jesus (5)

Our Bible verses today tell us about the beginning of Jesus’ last year of ministry on earth. He took His disciples to a place called Caesarea Philippi and talked with them. Jesus asked His disciples in verse 13, “Who do people say I am?”
In answer to that question, Peter confessed his faith in Jesus. He said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (verse 16b). Peter called Jesus “Messiah.” “Messiah” was the Hebrew name and “Christ” was the Greek name for the One God would send to save all people.
Peter’s confession showed that he truly believed that Jesus was God’s Son and his Savior. Today we need to confess that we believe Jesus is God’s Son. This is part of the process of obeying God and receiving His wonderful gift of salvation.
Notice that verse 20 says Jesus told His disciples not to tell anyone that He was the Messiah. That is not true for us today. Jesus wants us to tell other people about our faith in Him.
