Jesus Chose to Die

The night before Jesus was killed, He and His followers went to a place called Gethsemane. Jesus was very sad, so He prayed to God.
Jesus said to God (verse 39b), “My Father, if it is possible, don’t make me drink from this cup.” Jesus was saying, “If it is possible, don’t make me die on the cross.” But then Jesus said, “But do what you want, not what I want (verse 39b).” Jesus was willing to obey God, even if it meant dying.
Jesus could have chosen the easy way and refused to die. But instead, He chose to die a horrible death for us. Jesus never sinned — He was perfect. But He took our sin and accepted our punishment.
Why was Jesus willing to do this? Because He wants us to stop living for sin and start living for Him! Jesus loves us so much that He chose to die in our place.
Thank God for what Jesus did for you. And be sure to live for Him today!
