Jesus, Our Example

John the Baptizer preached in the desert around the Jordan River. He told the people, “Change your hearts and lives because the kingdom of heaven is coming soon” (Matthew 3:2). People repented of their sins, and John baptized them. (John baptized them by dipping them briefly under water.)
Then Jesus came to John. Jesus wanted John to baptize Him. John asked, “Why do you come to me to be baptized? I should be baptized by you!” (verse 14). John knew that Jesus was God’s Son. Jesus did not sin, and He didn’t need to change His life. Jesus told John to baptize Him because it was the right thing to do (verse 15). Jesus gave us an example to follow.
After Jesus was baptized, God showed that He was pleased with Jesus. God spoke from heaven and said, “This (Jesus) is my Son and I love him. I am very pleased with him” (verse 17).
Jesus was baptized to show us that baptism is important. Jesus wants us to follow His example in every part of our lives. Do you follow Jesus’ example?
