Last Words (3)

Our Bible verses today are Joshua’s last words to the Israelites. When Moses died, Joshua became the leader of the Israelites. Joshua led the army in battle against foreign nations. They were able to defeat those nations because God was with them. Now God’s people were living peacefully in the land that God had given to them. Joshua called together the leaders of Israel. Why? He wanted to give them final instructions before he died.
Joshua was afraid that after he died, the Israelites would start worshiping false gods. So he reminded the people in verses 10 and 11, “…the Lord your God fights for you. The Lord promised to do this. So you must continue to love the Lord your God.”
Joshua’s last words are good words for us today, too. We may not bow down to a golden statue, but often we worship our houses, our cars, our money or our families. We worship them by making them more important than God. We need to remember these words and make God most important in our lives.
