Last Words (5)

When the first church began in Jerusalem, the twelve apostles could not take care of all the people. The apostles chose seven men to help them. Stephen was one of these seven men. Acts 6:5 tells us that Stephen had great faith and was full of the Holy Spirit. God gave Stephen the power to do miracles (amazing works done by God’s power).
But some of the Jews started arguing with Stephen. They said that Stephen said things against Moses and against God. These men took Stephen to a meeting of the Jewish leaders. Stephen spoke to the men about God’s plan. Stephen talked about Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David and Solomon. Finally, Stephen talked about Jesus. He told the Jews that they had killed Jesus, God’s Son.
The Jews became so upset that they dragged Stephen out of the city and stoned him to death. Stephen’s last words are found in Acts 7:60b. He said, “Lord, don’t blame them for this sin!” Stephen’s last words were words of forgiveness.
Maybe you have bad feelings toward someone. I hope that your last words will be words of forgiveness and love.
