Like a Son

2 Timothy is another letter that Paul wrote to Timothy. He wrote this letter to encourage and strengthen Timothy in his work for God. Paul told Timothy that he prayed for him every day (1:3). Several times in this letter, Paul told Timothy that he was like a son to him.
Paul told Timothy to always remember the faith that his mother and grandmother had taught him (1:5). Paul also told Timothy not to be ashamed to tell people about Jesus (1:8). And Paul reminded Timothy to continue telling the Good News about Jesus.
In our Bible Reading, Paul encouraged Timothy to work hard and not give up. He used the examples of a soldier, an athlete and a farmer. In verse 7, Paul said, “Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand it all.” In chapter 3, Paul warned Timothy to stay away from people who “act like they serve God. But the way they live shows that they don’t really serve God” (3:5b). Paul explained that these people were full of sin.
