Loving Other People

I should love God. What does that mean? Should I write love letters to God? Should I buy a box of candy and a dozen roses for God? Should I give God a gift certificate to His favorite restaurant? I think loving God means something different than these things.
The best way I can love God is to obey Him. 1 John 5:3a says, “Loving God means obeying his commands.” The Bible has many commands for us to obey. Some examples of Bible commands are do not lie, do not steal, and love people. God has also told us to share the Good News about Jesus with other people. I should do all these things. Then I will show God that I truly love Him.
I should love other people, too. What does that mean? Should I give people whatever they want? Should I lie to my friends instead of hurting their feelings? Should I help other people and ignore my own family?
The way I can love my friends is to do what is best for them. God allowed Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. That is what is best for us. We should love other people by doing what is best for them.
