If a person has a broken bone or a dislocated joint, it can be very painful. Several years ago, I dislocated my elbow. I stayed in the emergency room for almost seven hours. The doctors did not know if I was allergic to any medicines. So they did not give me anything to stop the pain for many hours.
As I waited in the emergency room, I started to think about the pain that Jesus suffered when He was on the cross. I thought about this for a long time. Then it seemed that Jesus said to me, “This is how much I suffered on the cross – for you!”
The pain that Jesus suffered was much worse than my pain. But suddenly I realized what Jesus did for me. Verse 5 of our Bible Reading tells us about this. “But he [Jesus] was given pain to suffer for the wrong things we did. He was crushed for our guilt. A debt we owed – our punishment – was given to him. We were healed (forgiven) because of his pain.”
Praise God today for His wonderful plan of forgiveness through Jesus.
