Paul’s Third Trip (3)

Paul traveled to the city of Ephesus again. He knew that this was the last time he would be in Ephesus. Paul spoke to the elders (leaders) of the church there. He encouraged them and warned them to stay away from false teachers. Paul thanked these men for all that they had done for him. In verse 35b of our Bible Reading, Paul reminded them of something Jesus said. “I taught you to remember the words of the Lord Jesus. Jesus said, ‘You will be happier when you give than when you receive.'”
I love to receive presents on my birthday. It is so much fun to look at a brightly wrapped box and try to imagine what is inside. But as I have grown older, I have realized that it is even more fun to give a present to someone else. It is a wonderful experience to pick out a special gift for someone and then watch that person open your gift. That is what Paul was talking about. The people in Ephesus had taken care of Paul. He knew they were happy to share with him.
