About two hundred years before Jesus was born, a king in Asia named a city Philadelphia. This name is made up of two Greek words which mean “love” and “brother.”
The city of Philadelphia is mentioned in the book of Revelation. The Holy Spirit led John to write this book to seven churches in Asia. One of these churches was in the city of Philadelphia. The verses in our Bible Reading today are Jesus’ message to the Christians in Philadelphia.
In verse 8b Jesus says, “I know you are weak, but you have followed my teaching. You were not afraid to speak my name.” The Christians in Philadelphia trusted God, and they were patient during times of trouble.
We need to be like the Christians in Philadelphia. When we face problems and persecution, we need to depend on God to help us. Trust God today to lead you and help you share the Good News about Jesus with others.
