I saw a little girl with a pinwheel. She blew on the blades and made them spin around. She laughed and said, “See what I can do!” Many people today think that they have great power. Some scientists try to control life or the weather.
In our Bible Reading today, the prophet, Nahum, said that God was angry with the city of Ninevah. Why? Because the people refused to worship Him. The people in Ninevah thought that they were powerful. But these verses remind us that only God has great power. Only God can control the oceans and the weather. Only God can make rivers dry and cause earthquakes.
But within these verses about God’s power, we find one more thing. Verse 7 says, “The Lord is good. He is a safe place to go to in times of trouble. He takes care of the people who trust Him.” God has great power, and He will destroy people who do not follow Him. But God also loves us and takes care of us.
Thank God for His power. And thank Him for His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus.
