Naaman had leprosy, a terrible skin disease. He went to Israel to see God’s prophet, Elisha. Elisha sent a messenger to tell Naaman to dip in the Jordan River.
But Naaman was upset. Why? He was a proud man. He didn’t want to go to the dirty Jordan River. And Naaman was upset that Elisha sent a messenger. Naaman said (verse 11b), “I thought Elisha would at least come out and stand in front of me and call on the name of the Lord his God.”
Naaman’s pride almost kept him from being healed. But Naaman’s servants encouraged him to go to the Jordan River. Naaman obeyed, and he was healed.
Mary’s neighbor, Susan, was recovering from surgery. Susan said that her kitchen floor needed to be cleaned. When Susan was gone to the doctor, Mary came to her house. She scrubbed the kitchen floor. Mary was humble. She truly served God.
I hope that you will be humble like Mary. Don’t let your pride keep you from serving God.
