Propitiation

Verse 2 of 1 John 2 says, “Jesus is the way our sins are taken away. And Jesus is the way that all people can have their sins taken away, too.” Some Bible versions translate the phrase, “the way our sins are taken away,” as “propitiation.” So propitiation is another name for Jesus.
Propitiation is a big word that is not used very much today. A similar word is atonement, which is used often in the Old Testament. Atonement means that people who have been separated from God are brought back together with Him.
For many years, sin separated people from God. But when Jesus died on the cross, God and His people were joined together once again. If Jesus had not died, this would not have been possible.
Today is a special day when people around the world remember Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. Praise God every day that He made a way for us to be joined with Him again.
